How to buy and sell bitcoin
Buying and selling bitcoin at a Nova BTM machine is safe, simple and secure. Here is exactly what happens, step by step, so you know what to expect before you walk up.

Buying bitcoin
About five minutes at the machine.
Tap “Buy Bitcoins.”
On the machine’s home screen.
Verify your identity.
First time with us? You will scan a government-issued ID at the machine. After that you are on file and will not need to scan it again. Purchases over $3,000 require SSN verification.
Enter your mobile number on the keypad.
We text you a code to confirm it is you.
Enter the code we text you.
It arrives within a few seconds.
Choose how you want to receive your bitcoin.
Three options — see below.
Feed in your cash, one bill at a time.
The running total updates on screen as you go.
Done — the bitcoin is on its way.
You will see confirmation on screen before you walk away.
First time? Bring your ID. New customers verify once with a government-issued ID, whatever the amount. After that you are on file. Purchases over $3,000 require SSN verification, so plan for an extra minute.
Three ways to receive your bitcoin
Scan a wallet QR code
Have your wallet app open and ready. Fastest option.
Print a paper wallet
We print it at the machine. Treat it like cash — do not lose it.
Type an address by hand
Enter your destination address on the keypad. Double-check it.
Chose the paper wallet? It holds real bitcoin and needs to be moved into an app on your phone. We will walk you through it here.
Selling bitcoin
Two visits to the machine, or one if you pre-deposit — see below.
Tap “Sell Coins.”
On the machine’s home screen.
Choose how much cash you want.
The machine shows you the bitcoin amount to send.
Enter your mobile number on the keypad.
Same verification step as buying.
Enter the code we text you.
Send the exact amount shown to the address on screen.
It has to match exactly, or the transaction will not complete.
Wait for the network to confirm.
Usually around 5 minutes.
Watch for our text message.
We text you as soon as your cash is ready to collect.
Return to the machine and tap “Sell Coins,” then “Redeem.”
Log in with your cell phone number.
Collect your cash.
Skip the wait
Deposit from home, pick up your cash whenever suits you.
Send us your bitcoin ahead of time and you will not have to stand at the machine waiting for a network confirmation. Walk up, collect your cash, leave.
- Contact support at 844.668.2286, or text 425.507.1010.
- Tell us how much cash you want, or how much bitcoin you want to sell.
- Send your bitcoin to the address we give you. Your price locks in at this point.
- Go to any location and pick up your cash without waiting.
Customers may be required to supply ID information before completing a cash withdrawal.
